I’m thinking that I’m going to be taking visual communication when we choose our area of specialism. At first I was torn between 3D Spatial, Viscom & I the mysterious subject, Media. I was almost certain that I was going to choose Media from my list as I want to peruse animation, thus media would have been the best option. However because of circumstances Media was split between Vis Com and Fine Art.
So now Visual Communication comes in both my first choice and now my second choice. I took 3D Spatial off my list after the subject talk, as the subject seems too neat, which is nowhere near my profile. I enjoy collage, experimenting with materials to make a something other than a 3Dimentional installation.
I did enjoy Fashion Textiles and Fine Art; however I didn’t like the process as much I did with Visual communication. Fashion Textiles and Fine Art have taught me most about observational drawing, using continuous line, drawing with right/left hand and overall just experimenting a range of ways to draw. The two subjects opened my mind to the possibilities, and from this I have started to draw with candle wax as well as perfect my drawing skills. I’m surrounded by Textiles as my mother used to work in a clothing factory, so theres sewing machines and fabric all over my house. However I feel like I want to step into a different path, so I have crossed this off my imaginary list.
Fine art as I said before was a good rotation; however I just didn’t enjoy the process. I’m also not much of a paint or observation drawer and I feel this is a clear skill needed in the subject.
I really enjoyed tying together my style with the range of materials, e.g. fabric, red thread, string, masking tape, etc, and layer ideas. I was nice putting together contrasting materials, like card and string, paint and plastic, it was like I created a new texture.
I really enjoyed these 8 weeks because it really did expose my strengths and weaknesses, as well as help me develop my artistic style, a style which is being longed. I studied ICT and Media in my A Levels and have practiced some animation with Adobe Flash. I created a Game as well as a Music Video successfully. I’m happy that I have studied 3D special design as I can now use that way of thinking to maybe build houses for my future animations.
So to round up, I would like to take Visual Communication into my further study. This being because, one, I have taken A Level graphics thus am used to creating a product for an audience, two, I can practice animation in Visual Communication and third, most of all, because I enjoyed the process and end product of this rotation.
